Nadav Kander (born December 1, 1961) is a London-based photographer, artist and director, known for his portraiture and landscapes. Kander has produced a number of books; had his work exhibited widely; he received an Honorary Fellowship from the Royal Photographic Society in 2015, won the Prix Pictet and a World Press Photo award; and his work is included in the collections of the National Portrait Gallery, the Société Générale, Paris, Pictet & Cie’s Art Collection and other museums and galleries. The Yangtze river flows more than four thousand miles across China, traveling from its furthest westerly point in the Qinghai province to Shanghai in the east. The river is embedded in the consciousness of the Chinese, and plays a significant role in both the spiritual and physical life of the people. Using the river as a metaphor for constant change, Nadav has photographed the landscape and people along its banks from mouth to source. "After several trips to different parts of the river, it became clear that what I was responding to and how I felt whilst being in China was permeating into my pictures," he records; "a formalness and unease, a country that feels both at the beginning of a new era and at odds with itself". A most handsome example of the uncommon 2010 first edition of this lavishly produced volume (cited on page 406 of Martin Parr and Wassink Lundgren's. BUYERS PLEASE NOTE: there will be additional shipping charges for relatively very heavy books and for books send to destinations outside Europe.
